Community leaders in West Farms teamed up with local youths to paint over graffiti in high-traffic areas Sunday.
Officials and residents want to send a message to residents and visitors that the area is a beautiful neighborhood and that graffiti will not be tolerated.
They have already painted over and fixed vandalized walls in a few areas nearby, and kids who helped out say it feels great to see a difference.
The program was put together by elected officials, community residents, the 43rd Precinct and the Housing and Transit Precinct. Various youth groups also participated.
Community leaders plan to expand the cleanup initiative throughout the Bronx. Next weekend they will be in Castle Hill and Soundview getting rid of graffiti and painting murals instead.
