The gang member accused of shooting a man in Middletown may be behind bars, but the gun he allegedly used is sparking an investigation of its own.
Police arrested 20-year-old Raymond Semidey, of Middletown, for a shooting in April. The case would be closed, but, Semidey was hired by the town to help in the move of the Wallkill police station last summer. Investigators believe Semidey might have broken into the evidence room and stolen a gun.
Semidey denies stealing a gun. ?Me and about a dozen other workers had access to everything stored in the basement," said Semidey. He adds, ?The room was a mess and there were pieces of evidence left out. Some of my co-workers even stole things.?
Town Supervisor John Ward who coordinated the move says the evidence room was secure. The serial number on the gun used in the shooting was defaced. The gun is now being analyzed at a crime lab.
