A Monsey man faces a maximum of 125 years in prison for scheming to obtain a fraudulent loan from Park Avenue Bank. Mendel Zilberberg was convicted on five counts connected to bank fraud. Prosecutors say he was working as a practicing lawyer and serving as a director of Park Avenue Bank, while taking money for himself. Officials say the bank collapsed just months later. Zilberberg is expected to be sentenced in November.
A man is facing charges for allegedly exposing himself to a woman in East Fishkill. Police say they responded to reports in the area of McGrath Field near East Fishkill Recreation on July 1. They say that’s where Christopher Melendez exposed himself on a park bench. He’s been charged with public lewdness.
And an Orange County man is facing charges for two armed robberies and an attempted robbery over just 12 hours in Spring Valley. Police say a gunman robbed cash from the Next Gas Station at 1 a.m. Monday. Then at 11 a.m., he went into a clothing store on North Main Street demanding money. An employee ended up pushing the panic button, police say. Then an hour later, the Metro PCS on Central Avenue was robbed of cash. The set of crimes ended Wednesday when Adam Mohamed El-Gamal was arrest at his Harriman home. He faces federal charges and was arraigned in White Plains.
