Tests show the mysterious illness killing fish in West Nyack is herpes - specifically, koi herpes.
This is not the first outbreak of fish herpes in New York. Some believe the illness may have been transmitted to the fish population through people emptying koi ponds into local streams. This cannot be confirmed by the DEC.
