Some viewers might describe episode three of Peacock TV’s crime series “Poker Face” as a nail-biting mystery, but if you ask Joaquim Rodrigues, the barbeque and smokers shown in the episode in January stole the show.
“All the food that’s on episode three we cooked it, prepared it and served it. Most of the detail shots of cutting the brisket, seasoning all the meat and all those little quick shots that they did – that’s actually me,” said Rodrigues.
Rodrigues owns Ulster County-based Bearded Boys BBQ and was first spotted by the network last year for his unique, custom-built smokers.
The 26-year-old architect turned entrepreneur started the business for fun in high school when he discovered a lifelong passion for barbeque.
He has built eight smokers including a wood-fired pizza oven inside a 1951 Plymouth coupe.
Rodrigues, his smokers and award-winning food are featured in magazines and tour the Hudson Valley for dozens of catering events each year.
“Our pulled pork, everyone just goes crazy for but I feel like the brisket and mac and cheese are the heavy hitters," he says.
Rodrigues’ next adventure is an event center and restaurant that’s in the works in Walker Valley.
As for his national TV debut, Rodrigues says it was a sweet surprise.
“We got experience teaching Natasha Lyonne how to slice brisket,” said Rodrigues. “If it wasn’t for the people, we wouldn’t be here right now. To the people who haven’t tried it yet, give us a shot!”
