A flash of lightning may have set a Newburgh home on fire Monday, leading to a family being homeless.
Heavy rainfall prompted flash flood warnings across Westchester, Rockland and Orange counties. Lightning also struck around the three counties.
The homeowners at the River Road residence said they felt electricity during the storm and then they saw flames. The residents managed to escape without injuries, but fire officials believe the home will have to be torn down.
Officials are investigating whether the cause of the fire was in fact lightning.
