Middletown police are trying to find the person who stands behind a series of fake emergency calls that were placed with the department in January.

Police say they received five fake 911 calls at the end of last month, including one about a man carrying a gun, a report of a fight on Linden Boulevard and a bogus bomb threat at Middletown High School.

"The school had to go on lockdown for about an hour, so it's just a pain," says Lt. Paul Rickard, of the Middletown Police Department.

Police believe the caller used an Internet service meant for deaf people, where an operator relays a call to Middletown police.

"People pretty much can give out whatever information they want, and it's difficult to follow up where the actual source is," Rickard says.

However, police say once they obtain the prankster's IP address, that person could face felony charges.
