Mount Vernon Deputy Fire Chief Juan Peralta tells News 12 that they will typically open hydrants once the thermometer hits 85 degrees.
"One of the reasons why we do this is that we only have one pool in Mount Vernon, and a lot of times it becomes overpopulated and over dense and filled to capacity."
Peralta says the hydrants will usually stay on from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
