A New Rochelle detective is facing attempted assault charges after being suspended earlier this year.
The Westchester District Attorney's office found enough evidence, including video footage, to charge Detective Michael Vaccaro.
They say while off-duty, Vaccaro physically inserted himself into the arrest of a Mount Vernon man, hit the man several times with his fist, attempted to kick him and pressed his victim's face into the pavement.
The DA says the uniformed officers had the suspect and situation under control.
