A New Rochelle man convicted of assaulting or impeding a federal law enforcement officer and firing a gun during a pursuit received a 19-year prison sentence.
The incident played out in Yonkers’ Getty Square in 2020.
Darren Smith was arrested after police say he fled a traffic stop. During the chase, prosecutors said Smith fired five shots at an FBI task force officer and police officers. There were no injuries.
Smith was also convicted of use of a firearm and possession of a weapon as a felon. The jury was deadlocked on an attempted murder charge against Smith. The prosecution decided it would not re-try him on that count.
