Newburgh Mayor Nicholas Valentine says he expects the addition of four new police officers paid for through stimulus funds will have a drastic impact on the city.
The City of Newburgh is one of a few select cities nationwide to receive a federal stimulus grant targeted for law enforcement. Newburgh's grant is for $1 million.
Valentine says the money will help bring back foot patrols for the city's East End, where crime is worst.
"What we need to do is address [crime] by having visibility," Valentine says. "It's not throughout the city. It's various pockets that have higher crime rates."
