A 107-year-old woman from Newburgh is crediting faith and family for her longevity.

Newburgh great-great grandmother Evangelista DeJesus was born Feb. 27 1915 and has a lot of stories to tell.

"She talks about The Depression. She says how through The Depression, God was with them for her family and that they didn't suffer," says her daughter, Yvonne Mojica. 

The 107-year-old was born before women earned the right to vote. She's been alive for two pandemics and two world wars.

DeJesus was born in Puerto Rico and came to New York by ship when she was 12 years old.

She got married in 1930 and had five children.

The centenarian is now the matriarch of her family, which includes 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.

Despite a cancer scare in 2001 her daughter says she's in tip-top shape.

Evangelista says she never smoked or drank alcohol but above all, credits faith and family.

News 12 asked DeJesus if she thought she'd make it to 107.

She says she's just as surprised as everyone else.
