News 12 has spoken exclusively with the battered victim in Monday night's domestic-violence attack and arson in Middletown.
The 37-year-old woman named Alicia says she was making grilled cheese for her kids when her boyfriend, 39-year-old Larry Hickmon Jr. began a brutal attack that left her unconscious.
Alicia says she has broken bones in her face from being hit so many times and shared photos of her injuries with News 12.
She says Hickmon's behavior spiraled out of control Monday when he became upset and jealous with her neighbor.
Alicia says she was beaten, strangled and then dumped unconscious in the bathroom. She says when she awoke and ran to get her kids, she realized her apartment in Buttonwood Hills Condominiums in Middletown was on fire.
She and her children had to jump from a second-story balcony to escape.
"They tried to get me down first since my face was all bloody. So, they got me over, but I wouldn't go anywhere because I wanted my kids to make sure they were down," she says.
She says her children, who are 6, 7 and 10, are OK and staying with relatives.
Alicia says she may now need reconstructive surgery to fix the broken bones in her face, but there are emotional scars that will not be so easy to heal.
She says she wanted to share her story to help raise awareness to domestic violence.
The man she identified as her abuser is facing multiple charges and remains hospitalized in police custody without bail.
A GoFundMe has been started by the victim's sister.
