A New Jersey-based actor is facing charges for an alleged road rage-inspired shooting that caused a shelter-in-place at Stockton University’s Galloway campus on Thursday.
Galloway Township police responded to reports of a shooting on W. Jimmie Leeds Road near Redwood Avenue around 1 p.m. Thursday. A woman reported that she had been shot in the face by a white male with blonde hair in a ponytail. The victim said that the man drove away in a white Honda CR-V.
The victim was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition as of Friday.
Police were able to identify the alleged shooter as 46-year-old Ernest Wesley Heinz, of Port Republic. They say Heinz was arrested at a home in the Blue Heron Pines Development in Galloway Township, a few hours after the shooting.
Stockton University’s Galloway campus was under a shelter-in-place for several hours following the shooting and all classes were canceled for the day. Classes and activities resumed on Friday.
“The prompt and professional actions of our officers resulted in a quick apprehension of Mr. Heinz,” Chief Eric B. Hendrickson wrote in a statement. “We wish [the victim] a swift recovery, and we are here to support our community following this senseless incident.”
Heinz faces several charges, including criminal attempted homicide and aggravated assault with a firearm.
According to IMDB.com, Heinz has had several small roles on television and in movies, dating back to around 2002 – including an uncredited role as “thief” in HBO’s “The Sopranos."
