Party at private residence blamed for Red Hook COVID-19 outbreak

The Town of Red Hook is dealing with an outbreak of coronavirus cases.
Eight cases in Red Hook have been traced back to a party at a person’s home, according to the Dutchess Department of Health.
The cases are currently impacting the Red Hook Central School District Camp and pool programs, as well as the Recreation Summer Camp and pool programs.
Among the eight who just tested positive, several have already been vaccinated.
Doctors say they’re not especially concerned.
“The vaccination rate coverage is not to herd immunity, so that transmission events still are occurring. When you have transmission events, people have breakthrough cases even though they’re vaccinated," says Dr. Anil Vaidian, of the Dutchess Department of Health.
Dutchess County - along with many other places around the country - are seeing an uptick in COVID-19 cases - including in vaccinated people.
Since vaccines are not 100% effective, they can still get infected when mingling unmasked.
Vaccinated people who do get COVID-19 most likely will have mild to no symptoms. Hospitalization and death are very rare.
