Playing with Fire: Lawmakers want outside investigation of Ramapo fire inspector Adam Peltz
Lawmakers in Ramapo are calling for an outside investigation of the town's embattled fire inspector Adam Peltz.
Peltz is accused of turning a blind eye to serious fire code violations at several private schools.
Lawmakers are calling for someone else to investigate the case because town officials failed to wrap up an investigation last Friday as promised.
Ramapo building inspector Tony Malia told News 12 by phone that they were close to finishing their investigation into Peltz, and that they would release the findings at Town Hall on Thursday morning. The town attorney also confirmed that the result of the Peltz probe will be revealed.
Malia also says re-inspections are well underway at schools that got passing grades from Peltz but were deemed dangerous by the state.
The State Department had issued a scathing letter two weeks ago, ordering Ramapo to clean up its act or face a state takeover.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m.
