Police have identified the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run in Shrub Oak..
Officers tell News 12 that Demetrios Doupis, 40, of Yorktown, was dead when first responders arrived around 7 p.m. to the eastbound lanes of Route 6 between Sunnyside and Barger streets.
The stretch of busy Route 6 was shut down from Sunnyside to Barger streets for several hours.
Investigators were back on the scene Thursday morning going over the area.
Beth Dee lives along Sunnyside and saw the scene. She says this is a dangerous area, especially at night because there is no lighting. According to Dee, there have been four accidents in this area just within the last 24 hours. “People have to slow down, they have to pay attention, be aware of your surroundings."
Yorktown police are now searching for the driver of the car and are asking anyone with information to call them at 914-962-4141.
