Police in Newburgh say same-sex partners appear to be victims of a hate crime after they were beaten on Liberty Street over the weekend.
David Ludwig and John Delk were allegedly attacked by four girls early Saturday morning.
Ludwig claims the girls surrounded them, started yelling and then hit him on the side of the head. Ludwig says Delk ended up with a black eye, cuts and bruises all over his body.
According to Ludwig, the police officer who responded to the scene at first dismissed his claims, leading Ludwig to file a complaint.
Police are now investigating the alleged beating as a hate crime, though Ludwig has decided against pressing charges.
