Police: Wappingers Falls man arrested for abandoning 2 dogs on side of road

The Putnam County SPCA says a good Samaritan found the pair of dachshund-mix dogs on Longfellow Drive and turned them in.

A 64-year-old Wappingers Falls man is facing charges after police say he abandoned his two dogs on the side of a road near Lake Carmel.

The Putnam County SPCA says a good Samaritan found the pair of dachshund-mix dogs on Longfellow Drive and turned them in.

Detectives and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office say they located Leo Gioia and charged him with two counts of abandonment.

Gioia faces up to one year in jail and a fine of $1,000, according to authorities.
