A Congressman has joined the fight to get more Homeland Security money for Rockland County.

While New York state received more than $220 million in Homeland Security funding, Rockland didn?t see any of it. Congressman Eliot Engel (D-NY) has joined other local leaders who believe that the Tappan Zee Bridge, the Palisades Center in West Nyack and the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant could all be targets of terrorism and need funding as well.

Engel?s plan is to approach the board in charge of allocating money to counties in the state and ask for a waiver or request to receive funds. The group of state, federal and local leaders believe the funding would add up to approximately $1 million for Rockland. They are hopeful the county will be granted the waiver and receive the funds for the next fiscal year.
