The Rye community is at odds with city officials over raising an LGBTQ flag during Pride Month.
Fiona Degnan and Odessa Meulbroek and other members of the Gender and Sexuality Alliance at Rye High School are spearheading this effort.
They say they are very frustrated with city officials, who are getting legal guidance before making a decision.
News 12 was told they want to make sure this does not set a precedence for future flags that may be controversial.
However, students say the city's hesitancy is sending a bad message.
"Rye is not necessarily the most accepting place for LGBTQ youth, so by having a symbol, it would really show to the people that it's OK to be LGBTQ and it's okay to support it," says Odessa Meulbroek, of Rye High School.
The city says a decision will be announced at its next meeting, which is May 5.
