The Rye YMCA and its popular programs remain closed after suffering devastating damage from Ida.
"Almost the entire first floor, the contents of the first floor, were unsalvageable, " says Rye YMCA Executive Director Gregg Howells.
Its two pools that had just had an annual maintenance were also left with significant damage.
A beautiful space that was just renovated to accommodate full day child care is now a shell of its former self.
"We spent $125,000 or more just to upgrade those spaces, in preparation for the opening of that program," says Howells.
The goal is to get some programs going again on the second and third floods, which saw little damage from Ida.
"We hope to get our fitness center and gymnasium and some other program spaces open. As soon as we get power back, and we can check all our systems," says Howells.
Officials at the Rye YMCA say they are facing over $1 million in storm-related damages.
