Hudson Valley residents are starting to hear a familiar sound of the holiday season.
The Salvation Army's Red Kettle Christmas Campaign is officially under way. In Spring Valley, Debbie Hoffman stood outside the Christmas-tree shops for eight hours as shoppers donated what they could despite tough economic times.
Rockland County's kettle goal for this year is $90,000, up from $77,000 last year.
Meanwhile, more than two tons of food is ready for serving at the Salvation Army in Spring Valley, but organizers say more frozen turkeys are needed.
