The FDNY says Odom was doing illegal blowtorch work on the roof and his parked vehicle was blocking the nearest fire hydrant. When firefighters responded, parked vehicles were blocking two fire hydrants in total.
Resident Ayana Evans said she and other tenants were complaining to building management for awhile about a leak when a repairman showed up at her door on Monday.
“Finally we thought somebody is coming to take care of it. So actually, we were happy," Evans said.
Shortly after the repairman went to the roof, she said he came back down and asked for a bucket of water.
“He comes back down for another bucket of water and we start smelling something burning," Evans said.
A vacate order was issued for several apartments.
Resident Raoul Muzac said it was a “scary situation.”
“He endangered not only the apartments but the entire building,” Muzac said.
The FDNY says multiple criminal summonses were issued to Odom for blocking the hydrant, not having permits for the blow torch and for using it illegally.
Odom was charged with reckless endangerment of property and was given a desk appearance ticket.
