Rockland County sheriffs and police officers are teaming up this year to stop drunken drivers during the holiday season.
Authorities say they?ll be using a DWI van to test suspects immediately after they?re stopped on the road. Police say they also plan to strictly enforce the new DWI law that sentences convicted offenders to a minimum of four years in prison for driving drunk with a child under the age of 16 in the car.
DWI arrests made by the sheriffs department were up by 140 in 2009. Authorities say the DWI checkpoints will start New Year?s Eve.
