Social media is on fire with reaction to the Supreme Court's decision to strike down New York's concealed weapons law.
Rep. Mondaire Jones (D) says "This decision is a direct assault on the safety of millions of New Yorkers, and will result in more dangerous weapons in our communities. This dark money-backed Supreme Court must be stopped. We need to expand it and restore balance before it's too late."
State Sen. Alessandra Biaggi (D) posted on Twitter saying, "The court holds that NY's 'proper-cause' requirement to obtain a concealed-carry license violates the Constitution by preventing law-abiding citizens w/ ordinary self-defense needs from exercising their 2nd Amendment right to keep & bear arms in public for self-defense."
Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D) wrote in part, "The Supreme Court decided that guns are more important than our lives in this country".
State Senator Pete Harckham (D) released a statement saying “The U.S. Supreme Court’s misguided decision to overturn a New York gun law requiring a license for ‘open carry’ will make life more dangerous for residents statewide. We need more common sense gun safety laws in our country, not less. This is a sad day, indeed.”
Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), issued issued a statement, saying in part, “Today, the United States Supreme Court ruled in defense of the Constitutional rights of law-abiding New Yorkers who have been under attack for far too long."
