A Yonkers credit union is helping Ukrainian relief efforts both locally and abroad.

SUMA Federal Credit Union was founded by Ukrainian Americans and is now supporting local Ukrainians amid the conflict, as well as overseas.

"The reason it was established was to cater to the financial need of the Ukrainian American community here in Yonkers," says SUMA Federal Credit Union President and CEO Roman G. Kozicky.

News 12 spoke with Kozicky at the Yonkers branch, which is staffed by Ukranian Americans and adorned with Ukrainian pride.

"There is no separation of Ukrainians here and Ukrainians back home in Ukraine, so what's at stake is their homeland," says Kozicky.

The credit union has waved fees for wire transfers to make it easier for Ukrainians in the U.S. to send money to family members in Ukraine.

It has also started giving lawn signs out for free, although a donation to help humanitarian aid organizations is recommended. So far, the credit union has given out 1,000 signs.

Kozicky says he plans to continue handing out these lawn signs and collecting donations for relief efforts as long as the support is needed in Ukraine.
