A 17-year-old student is facing felony charges after an alleged prank forced the evacuation of Cornwall High School.

According to police, the student set off a marine signal flare and then pulled the fire alarm Thursday. Police say the flare filled the hallways with smoke. All students and teachers managed to leave the building safely after the fire alarm went off. Administrators say they were able to review school surveillance tapes and pinpoint the student who triggered the alarm. The school superintendent said in a statement, ?It was a serious situation, but we were pleased no one was hurt. The student responsible put himself and the entire building in jeopardy.?

Officials say the device caused about $5,000 worth of damage. The teen is facing two felony charges for setting off the flare and for pulling the alarm.
