A local nonprofit organization has acquired thousands of dollars' worth of bedding and personal care products thanks to many donors.
Donations came from groups like Good360, Brooklinen and Harmon.
Donor Jim Hailing, director of Good360, says he’s happy the items will bring comfort to women who’ve been impacted by housing insecurity.
“We are just so excited to be working with the United Way today to be able to drive them with needed and critical supplies for the four shelters in this area,” says Halling.
United Way of Westchester and Putnam director of community impact Avery Zuvic hopes the donations will be one less thing to worry about.
“It really is kind of a bright spot for many people in this situation,” says Zuvic.
News 12 is told the products are now being donated to domestic violence shelters and organizations including My Sister’s Place and Hope’s Door.
Hope’s Door is a Hawthorne-based domestic violence agency that provides counseling, emergency shelter and legal services for women in need.
Barbara Turk of Hope’s Door says the organization is more than grateful for the donation.
“It's going to help us create a calming atmosphere in our shelter so that everyone has new bedding and comforters and pillows and robes to wear to feel safe and secure,” says Turk.
To donate to the cause, visit United Way of Westchester and Putnam's website.
