Vaccination rates tick up as threat of delta variant, restrictions linger

The threat of a more contagious delta variant and stricter COVID-19 restrictions appears to be getting more New Yorkers to roll up their sleeves.
Following a huge dip in vaccinations earlier in July, over 84,000 people were vaccinated rom Thursday to Friday.
That's more than the three previous days combined.
Steven Haughton was one of those people who decided to get vaccinated.
"Considering...the new variant that's out there, I think it's probably the best thing to do," Haughton says. "And coming this fall I think it's going to be out of hand."
A mask mandate is back for many county facilities, including common areas like concession stands and restrooms at pools or beaches.
New policies for Rye Playland are also expected soon.
Anyone who still needs to be vaccinated can head to the Peekskill Riverfront Green Park starting at 2:30 p.m.
Both the Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be given out.
It is part of the Vax Up Westchester effort, targeting zip codes with the lowest vaccination rates.
