A 15-year-old sophomore at Valhalla Middle-High School is facing misdemeanor charges for urinating in a bottle of ketchup and placing the condiment back in the cafeteria for consumption.
Police say the student is being charged with tampering with a consumer product, a seond-degree misdemeanor, and has been issued an appearance ticket for family court.
School officials say they have been in contact with the district physician as well as the Board of Health, but they do not yet know if any students were exposed to the contents of the tainted ketchup. There are no reports yet of ill students.
A school statement warned that any students found to be involved in the end-of-year prank will also face disciplinary action. All condiment bottles have been confiscated from the cafeteria and replaced with sealed packets to prevent a similar situation.
