February is National Dog Training Education Month and the TSA's most senior explosives-detection dog, Cooper, is helping to bring attention to all the fur-tastic work the canines do.
There are more than 1,000 TSA canine teams deployed nationwide. They work at more than 100 airports, mass transit and maritime systems.
The dogs train at the TSA's National Explosives Detection Canine Training Center in San Antonio, Texas for 12 to 16 weeks. About 300 dogs graduate each year.
The explosives-detection dogs are there to keep people safe. One thing their handlers ask is please don't pet them. When they are on duty, they are all about business and not play.
