Hundreds of people came out Thursday night to honor the life of the mother of Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, the matriarch of the powerful political Spano family.
Wake services to remember Josephine Spano were held at The Sinatra Memorial Home on Yonkers Avenue.
News 12 spoke with Nicholas Spano, brother of Mike Spano and one of Josephine's 16 children.
"My mom has had such, you know, she was a quiet, unassuming, but strong person and people thought my father ran the house, but it was really my mom who has been behind us in my father's political career, my brother's political career, mine," He recalled. "We're overwhelmed just because of the expressions of love for my mom, for my family."
Josephine Spano's funeral will be on Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Yonkers.
She died Wednesday at the age of 89.
