State police are investigating the death of a missing cat found mutilated last week at the end of its owner’s driveway in Wappingers.
FeFe went missing two months ago on July 28, according to its owner, Heather Chadik.
Chadik had hoped her beloved pet would return safely, but instead, says she found the cat last Friday back home deceased.
“She was my little panther. I’m really devastated because it’s disgusting,” says Chadik. “She was just killed.”
Chadik believes FeFe was killed by a person and gave News 12 photos showing how the cat looked, which appear to show the animal’s stomach skinned and its eyes gouged out.
State police say Chadik showed them photos of the deceased cat and that its appearance could be due to normal decomposition. News 12 showed Orange County SPCA Humane Law Enforcement Officer Gene Hecht the photos.
“This was definitely not natural,” says Hect. It would take a necropsy to see exactly what killed the animal but it’s natural decomposition.”
Hect says it is possible that the cat was attacked by another animal but that without a necropsy, which Chadik says wasn’t done, there’s no way of knowing for sure.
It’s also not clear how FeFe ended up back at home after being missing for so long.
“She was folded on her side with her paws under her head,” says Chadik. “She had just been killed.”
Chadik says FeFe was a 10-year-old indoor cat and that the animal escaped out of a window screen she didn’t realize was broken.
