A parking garage located at 30 Hawthorne Ave. in Yonkers has been condemned after being deemed unsafe, according to city officials.
Pink notices that are dated Dec. 21 are posted on the building's entrances. They read that the lot is condemned as unsafe for human occupancy and must be vacated immediately.
For residents who frequently use the garage, this comes as no surprise.
"My fear is coming back, parking my car, and that garage falling. And me, suffering from artery disease, getting trapped in there, that's my fear," said Janique Breland, who has parked in the lot since 2020.
Last week, motorist Janique Breland took to social media to document the conditions herself.
"There's children in there at 7 in the morning…You have all of us trying to get out at the same time because we don't want that to come down with our kids in there. That's why they needed to see that," she said.
City officials confirmed the privately owned lot was condemned for unsafe conditions and could not say when the lot is expected to reopen.
News 12 contacted the building's operator, MPG Manhattan Parking, and are waiting to hear back.
