Families across the country attended Easter Services on Sunday. News 12's Emily Young was at St. John the Baptist Church in Yonkers where she spoke to congregants about the significance of this day.
"This is the highlight of our year. A savior was born to save us from our sins on the cross and then rise from the dead, so today is the culmination of everything we are about as Catholic-Christian people," says Father Stephen Norton.
The themes of Easter, like, renewal, take on a whole new meaning after many churchgoers have steered clear of services the last couple of year due to COVID-19.
"It's been really abysmal as far as population and people coming to church. But now you can see, people are coming back in for Easter because there's a sense of excitement and joy and hope and renewal," Norton explains.
In his Easter Vigil Mass, Pope Francis gave a plea for peace in the Ukraine, and at St. John the Baptist Church, Ukrainians are at the forefront of churchgoers' minds.
"So many people are praying not only here in Yonkers but throughout the world," says Norton.
