A family-owned food truck business is working to recover after an early Sunday morning fire destroyed the commercial kitchen it rented in Wharton.

The owners of Colonial Grill Food Truck say they lost everything they used to prepare food after a fire broke out at Luna Restaurant and Bar on North Main Street.

Wharton police say multiple fire departments responded to the building just after 4 a.m. The fire caused severe damage and left behind blown-out windows and debris.

No injuries were reported.

Although the business’s food trucks were not damaged, owners say the loss of their commercial kitchen is a setback.

“Since we are a food truck business, our food trucks are perfectly fine, but there, we have our big fridges, double-door fridges, all of our containers,” said co-owner Kevin Valbuena. “We make all of our sauces here, so all of our ingredients… everything is gone.”

Colonial Grill, which has locations in Morristown and Hoboken, has been in business for about 10 years. The family says they’re now searching for another commercial kitchen to rent and hope to be back in operation as early as this week.

“We’ve been in business for about 10 years, and my dad really started with little to nothing,” Valbuena said. “Having to experience this is difficult, but we know we can get through it.”

The owners say they’re also thinking about their employees as they work to get the business back on its feet.

“It’s tough, especially since we have a big team and a lot of people that rely on us—our employees,” Valbuena said.

A cause of the fire was still not known as of Sunday evening.
