A firefighter suffered minor injuries while battling a two-alarm fire that broke out in a multi-story residential building in Borough Park on Sunday afternoon, FDNY officials said.

The fire occurred near 52nd Street and 16th Avenue and prompted a large emergency response and the closure of several nearby streets.

More than 40 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene after flames were reported on the top floor of the building.

Video from the scene showed ladder trucks directing water onto the structure as smoke rose from the upper floors. Firefighters were also seen breaking windows to ventilate the building and clear smoke.

Deputy FDNY Chief Peter O'Connor said 42 fire units and a total of 46 FDNY units responded to the blaze.

"One firefighter was taken to an area hospital with a minor injury," O'Connor said. "The fire was under control at 2:16 p.m."

Officials said the injured firefighter is expected to make a full recovery.

FDNY crews remained at the scene after the fire was extinguished. Aerial ladders were positioned near the second-floor apartment where authorities said the fire originated.

The homeowner will not require assistance from the American Red Cross for relocation, according to fire officials.

A Department of Buildings notice to vacate was issued for the entire three-story building. The notice cited an exposed roof, damage to the structure and water damage throughout the building.

Several streets in the area remained closed Sunday afternoon as firefighters continued overhaul operations and monitored for any remaining hot spots.

A cause of the fire was not immediately known.
