Felony charges were dropped Wednesday against a husband accused of helping his wife commit suicide in a 300-foot plunge off Bear Mountain.

Victor Han pleaded guilty Wednesday to misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child in exchange for the prosecution's recommendation that he receive three years probation. As part of the deal, the felony counts, including promoting a suicide attempt, were dropped. The prosecution admits it would have had a hard time making the felony charges stick. "Part of the reason we entered into this plea agreement was because you have a very unusual fact pattern, very unusual evidence and you have an unusual charge," said Rockland County District Attorney Michael Bongiorno.

Han got out of his family's minivan at a Bear Mountain cliff last June, leaving his wife and two daughters inside. Authorities say Han's wife then drove the minivan off the cliff and was killed. The couple's children survived. Han later admitted he knew his wife, Hejin, was suicidal.

Han has limited visitation with his daughters, and the matter is being decided in family court. His sentencing is scheduled for June 6.
