Residents in one part of Rockland say they're concerned about quality-of-life issues because of an alleged lack of code enforcement by the Town of Ramapo.

Hillcrest resident Thomas Carson cites eight cars parked in front of a home each night as one example that's impacting the quality of life and safety on Nansen Court.

"We have got to maintain our neighborhoods and that's what we're trying to do," Carson said.

News 12 heard from a handful of other people in the neighborhood with similar concerns and complaints about unmaintained properties, noisy neighbors or seeing a dozen or more people coming in and out of homes each day.

"What we'd like is to hold the owners of this properties accountable, up to par with how we're keeping the neighborhood, how we're keeping our houses," Carson added.

News 12 went to see one of the alleged illegal dwellings, but no one answered the door Thursday.

Carson said Town of Ramapo officials told him violations were issued, but he feels not much has changed.

"We want to get to the bottom of this, and not just have violations handed out, but have it stopped," Carson said. "We need relief in this area. If violations have been issued, press the issue."

Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht told News 12 that, "Those concerns being addressed. The town code enforcement officer has gone out multiple times to investigate complaints, some were found to not have any violations, some were resolved, while others are still in the process of removing violations."
