New Jersey residents of family members who live in Israel say they are worried for their safety amid Iran's air strikes targeting the Middle Eastern country.
Jason Shames, CEO of the National Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey, says his sister and her children are in Israel. He spoke to News 12's Amanda Lee on Sunday night.
"Like everyone else, I'm horrified and I'm disgusted and I'm aggravated, and I'm frustrated by what happened again last night," he said.
Shames shared about what his family members abroad are experiencing.
"My sister put my three nephews and my little niece to sleep in their safe room in their apartment last night. This way they wouldn't have to move them in the middle of the night if a siren had gone off," Shames said. "It happens so many times now that they're used to it but it's not something that we should say is acceptable or should become the norm."
Police across the Garden State said they're ramping up security near synagogues following Iran's attack on Israel. Shames advised residents of the Jewish faith to stay in contact with the authorities.
"Law enforcement is working very closely with us and it's a two-way information street. What we've been asking people to do is report everything that happens," Shames emphasized.
