Residents fear West Nyack plant's plan will increase noise, dust problems

Residents living near the Tilcon Quarry in West Nyack are pleading for peace and quiet after learning of a newly proposed project that could make noise conditions worse.
The Tilcon Quarry?s new plan is to fill in 15 acres and level the land near its asphalt plant. The fill could be anywhere from 10 to 50 feet high. Tilcon is asking the town of Clarkstown for permission for the project, which could last more than five years.
According to the Clarkstown supervisor, the Tilcon Quarry is regulated by state and federal guidelines, but now the town wants more of a say in noise regulations. So, the town plans to petition for a change to the state contract.
The Clarkstown supervisor says Tilcon must submit a master plan, which will go through a review process of six to eight months.
