Residents in Rockland County gathered at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet on Saturday for a National Wreaths Across America Day event.
Organizers said it's the second time that they've hosted the Rockland installation of the event at St. Anthony's Cemetery and hundreds came out to participate, including members of the American Legion Post 329, AOH Div. 3, and the Pearl River Elks #2041.
They helped place over 1,000 wreaths of veterans who were buried at the cemetery.
According to John T. Draper, a coordinator from Wreaths Across America Rockland, the event gave these volunteers a chance to spread some holiday joy to those who have fought for our country's freedom.
"I was in the service in 1965 to '67 and I think our veterans should be recognized every year for what they gave up to make our life better here," Draper said.
