Suspicious fire closes Yonkers high school
Officials closed Saunders High School in Yonkers Monday for cleanup after a suspicious weekend fire.
Authorities say the blaze broke out in the Palmer Road school Saturday around 5:30 a.m. The school had been closed the previous week for mid-winter vacation.
School officials visited the site and decided to close the building to students Monday to continue the cleanup. Officials say teachers still reported to work.
The school district told News 12 that most of the damage is to the main office and lobby areas.
Officials say a follow-up phone call will be sent to students and faculty later in the day when a decision is made on whether to open Tuesday.
