Driving over the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge could get a bit pricier next year.

The New York State Thruway Authority is considering a proposal that would raise the toll.

Here's a breakdown of the plan:

Standard E-ZPass holders would see a 50 cent increase in each of the next two years, making it $5.25 in 2021 and $5.75 in 2022.

Tolls by mail would jump up to from $5.00 to $6.83 in 2021 and $7.48 in 2022.

Some officials, including Sen. David Carlucci, are taking issue with raising the toll.

They say the people who can least afford a higher toll are the ones who end up paying the most.

"Many of the residents who I've personally dealt with have accumulated fines that have now spilled over onto other parts of their life. And it's just been a snowballing effect for an economic personal disaster for them," says Carlucci.

It's important to note that there is a discounted resident E-ZPass program. Those who qualify for that and register for it, would not have increased tolls under the proposal.
