Warwick Valley Humane Society asks for donations to help sick, starving cats
Dozens of sick or starving feral cats have been rescued in Warwick after the sudden death of their caretaker.
Rescuers with the Warwick Valley Humane Society say 24 cats in a colony of more than 40 were recently taken in. They say the animals rescued so far were among those in the worst condition, with some requiring surgery and other urgent veterinary care.
One cat was found face down in the dirt, dehydrated and emaciated, according to rescuers.
The Humane Society is asking for donations to help continue caring for the animals.
So far, more than $3,000 has been raised. Rescuers say the cats that remain outdoors will be fed daily and monitored until they can be humanely trapped.
