Westchester County officials on Monday passed land acquisition acts that will lead to more affordable housing being built in the future.

Officials voted unanimously in favor to pass the acts, which will allow the county to buy land for the construction of housing units for seniors and families suffering from housing insecurity.

"I think it’s just a beautiful thing when county and city can work together to support the needs of our community,” said Legislator Shanae Williams. “I know how badly our senior citizens throughout Westchester, especially in Yonkers, need more affordable housing and that’s what we're doing.”

One of those affordable properties will be erected in Yonkers, according to officials. The site will offer 94 units for seniors earning at or below 30% and up to 80% of the county's median income.

A second property will be developed in Ossining offering 74 units for seniors.
