After years of controversy, plans are finally in place to connect Interstate 84 to Stewart International Airport in Newburgh.
The Stewart Park and Reserve Coalition, or SPARC, is dropping its 5-year-old lawsuit against the state. As part of a settlement, the state can move forward with its plans to connect Interstate 84 to the Stewart Airport. One of the main sticking points of the project was the land next to the airport. SPARC is now able to protect the 1,600 acres of land. The airport says the deal needed to get done so it can try to lure low-cost carriers. The state says construction of the new airport road will begin this winter.
